Alright, it was pointed out to me the other day that I haven't updated this site in a long time, so I will do so now.
Actually, the rest of the site was even further out of date than this blog. I don't think I had made any real changes since last summer, and those were minor aesthetic changes. Those of you who have seen the rest of the site will no doubt snicker at the use of the word "aesthetic" in reference to this site.
The first update in a year? The honour goes to my good friend Pamela (incidentally, she is also the person who pointed out how out of date the site is). She has been added to the very exclusive "Friends" list, and deservedly so. There are friends that become a part of your life, and those are always good. Then there are friends that change your life. That's the category that the people on this list fall into, and those are the people who become lifelong friends. Welcome to the Lifelong Friends Club, Pamela. Hang your coat up over there, grab yourself a cocktail, and please, keep your hands inside the cart at all times.
What else is new? Well, how about what's old is new again? I met up with some old friends on Sunday, people who I haven't seen in 13 years in most cases. My good friends from high school, John, Keltie, Cindy and Ruth. It was great to see them again after so long.
Cindy had a dream a little while ago, in which I was dying, and my dying wish on my deathbed was to see these people again. This motivated her to seek us all out and get together, as it really had been too long. I joked with her about this dream, but it was really touching to know that someone would think about you all those years later, and care enough to take action and do something about it.
I thought at first that it would be a great rehashing of the years between 15 and 20. It wasn't, and that was what was so cool about it. We just talked about where, and who we are now. The funniest thing to me was when Ruth asked me what's new (remember, I haven't seen or talked to her since I was 19).
"Not much, you?" I answered.
"Same old same old," she said, as her 3 year old son ran around us.
It was great, to just have that level of comfort with a group of people. I looked around the room, and thought of the things that make me who I am. As I looked at each of these people, I realized who these things came from, and it was just a great feeling.
So the moral of this little blog? Call someone you haven't seen in years, someone who made an impact on your life, and let them know. Let someone who has had a huge effect on your life recently and let them know how important they are to you. You know that you would want to hear about it if it was you having that impact on them. Let them know.
